DyeArtist Hand Dyed Fabric - Dyeing Techniques |
We use various contemporary adaptations of centuries old shibori shaped resist dyeing techniques to create patterns and designs in the cloth. These mechanical resist methods include stitching, folding, clamping, and arashi shibori (pole-wrap). We use dextrin and other the starch resists similar to those used by a numerous cultures around world over the ages to create special designs. Over the years we have perfected our low water immersion (LWI) dyeing technique that creates highly mottled and crystallized designs. The entire surface of our gradations have complete color coverage, an absence of white-spaces, and still display an incredibly high degree of patterning and shading. These gorgeous designs are incredibly different on one side of the fabric from the other. This provides you with twice the design possibilities for your sewing projects. Collectors and all of those who treasure handdyed fabrics will appreciate the unique processes that we use in creating our fabric. Our loving care and attention to detail results in the finest quality handcrafted fabrics. Looking for a hard to find color? Just send us a swatch of the color you are trying to match. We will be happy to compare it to our extensive color swatch library and make a color recommendation to you! Our gradation sets are also available in 9 step, and 12 step progressions.
